No sandwiches here! ALSA hosts an office lunch for Marthan Bester

ALSA hosted one of ALSA Manager Ria Olivier’s excellent two-course office lunches this week when marine mammalogist Marthán Bester visited Stellenbosch University from Pretoria for a two-day session with over 700 of his slides taken on Gough and Marion Islands in years back for adding to the ALSA photographic archive.  Yesterday before and after lunch Marthán helped Ria and Anché  Louw record information for each slide, fortified by tea and home-baked cookies, the latter supplied by ALSA friend, Marié Theron, Science Librarian at the university’s J.S. Gericke Library.

Do you have (or have inherited) a photo collection of sojourns with the South African National Antarctic Programme at the islands, at SANAE in Antarctica or on a ship in the Southern Ocean that you are willing for ACAP to archive for posterity? Contact us and we will scan your prints and slides for you at no charge, then return them along with the scanned illustrations on an electronic disc. If you are not residing in the greater Cape Town area (when we can visit to collect) we will cover courier charges within South Africa both ways. And you could also get invited for lunch (with wine if so wished)!
