Nagraadse Diploma in Antieke Kulture: Seminaar 27-31 Januarie 2014

Die nuwe groep studente in die eenjarige Nagraadse Diploma in Antieke Kulture het ‘n vyfdaagse seminaar op Stellenbosch bygewoon.

Die program fokus op die kulture van die Ou Nabye Ooste (Egipte, Mesopotamië, Siro-Palestina en Persië) en die klassieke wêreld (Griekeland en Rome). Die doel van hierdie interdissiplinêre program is om studente met kennis van die kulture van die antieke wêreld en spesifieke aspekte van hulle kultuur (bv. godsdiens, letterkunde, kuns, samelewings), asook ‘n begrip vir die vormende invloed van hierdie kulture op hedendaagse kulture, waardes en instellings toe te rus.

Postgraduate Diploma in Ancient Cultures: Seminar 27-31 January 2014

The new group of students in the one year Postgraduate Diploma in Ancient Cultures attended a five day seminar in Stellenbosch.

The programme focuses on the cultures of the Ancient Near East (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Siro-Palestine and Persia) and the classical world (Greece and Rome). The aim of this interdisciplinary programme is to equip students with knowledge of the cultures of the ancient world and specific aspects of their culture (e.g. religion, literature, art, societies), as well as an understanding of the formative influence of these cultures upon present-day cultures, values and institutions.

Prof Herbert Niehr of Eberhard Karls University Tübingen is an extraordinary professor at the Department of Ancient Studies and the editor of The Aramaeans in Ancient Syria (Brill). This new handbook gives detailed and current information on different aspects of Aramaean culture in Syria supplemented by overviews on the Aramaeans in Assyria, Babylonia, Phoenicia, Palestine, Egypt, North Arabia and on the Aramaean heritage in the Levant.
