About

The Department of Ancient Studies

The Department of Ancient Studies was established in 1999 as the amalgamation of the previous Departments of Classics and Ancient Near Eastern Studies. The Department studies the ancient cultures, civilizations and languages of the Mediterranean and Near East and offers courses in Ancient Cultures, Biblical Hebrew, Ancient Greek, Latin and Classical Legal Culture.

Ancient Studies enable students to take critical distance of their own context and develop an historical awareness and thus to make an informed contribution to the development of our changing society.
