Guidelines for the use of the GERGA Mailing Lists…

Please read the following guidelines and abide by the rules as far as possible. If your posting to the list is rejected by the moderator then it is highly likely that you have failed to comply with one or more of the rules.
Innocent mistakes made due to ignorance or lack of understanding will be tolerated, but serious violations especially in regards to pornography, spamming and spreading of viruses will not be tolerated and will be dealt with promptly and severely! Violators will be instantly banned from the lists and the matter reported to the university authorities.

Use of images...

No messages containing images, advertising posters will be allowed.

Attachments...

No attachments and executable files that could spread viruses are allowed. ONLY e-mail text messages are allowed.

No Subject?...

Messages with no Subject lines, containing special text formatting, or with Subject lines that do not clearly state what the contents of the message are will be rejected immediately.

Links to outside companies...

Posting links to outside companies not directly related to the University or its services is prohibited.

Adverts for private businesses...

The use of this list to send advertisements for private businesses outside the university is not permitted.

Chain letters...

Chain letters and known “spam” (unsolicited commercial e-mail advertisements) is prohibited.

Obscene language...

Please do not use obscene or inappropriatee language on this list is prohibited.

Pornography...

Posting links to pornographic images or inappropriate content to this list is expressly prohibited.

Official Mailing Lists...

These lists are run by GERGA and are official mailing lists for all Tygerberg students and are solely for the use as a communications medium.

Chat Lists...

This is not a general chat list, so please try to keep the topics centered around announcements, advertisements, requests and general news items.

Surveys & questionnaires...

Only surveys, questionnaires, or opinion polls officially sanctioned by the university and approved by the Ethics Committee may be sent out using this mailing list.

Unusual requests...

For any unusual requests such as attaching PDFs or Word Forms for smaller groups (less than 150 members), the moderator or owner of that list must be contacted and approval obtained before the mail is sent out.

Private e-mail addresses...

Posting to the mailing lists using “free” webmail providers like GMail, Outlook.com Yahoo!Mail etc. is not permitted as this exposes the university to spam and phishing attacks.
