About the Institute

Although the official launch of the FVZS Institute took place on Tuesday, 29 March 2011 most of the Institute’s programmes have already been developed in 2010. As such most of the current programmes are thus in session/running/active. They range from Stellenbosch University (SU) accredited short courses to life skills development programmes with a focus on community development.

Here are some of the courses that are on offer:

  • Advanced course in mentoring (focuses on skills development related to small-group discussions and is designed to support the SU mentor programme)
  • Seeing the world through each other’s eyes (joint exchange programme with Kennesaw State University, USA, that focuses on the UN’s development themes)
  • 2DO! (focuses on the development of generic leadership skills for second-year students)
  • Short course in community engagement (focuses on engaging with students and various communities in and around Stellenbosch)
  • Matie school leaders symposium (focuses on joining learners from various contexts to engage on a number of topics)
  • Students as agents for social change (joint course with Samford University, USA)
  • Joint tennis and life skills programme (focuses on developing younger learners in a three-year cycle by means of tennis)
  • NUCLEUS – activating tomorrow’s entrepreneurs (focuses on developing student entrepreneurs in a number of practical projects)
