Cobus Jooste is lecturer of Intellectual Property Law, Mercantile Law (Internet Law) (LLB), Information Technology Law (LLM) and Intellectual Property in the Digital Environment [eIP Law] (LLM) in the Department of Mercantile Law.

He is a member of the IP Unit, a Fellow of the Anton Mostert Chair of Intellectual Property and Consultant in the technology law practice area of Werksmans Inc.

His primary field of research is law in the digital environment and computer programs and focuses on the decompilation prohibition and the protection of non-literal elements of software. He was a recipient of the full term NCPETF scholarship for 5 years.

He is the author of several articles on issues of intellectual property and ICT law and co-author of the chapter on EIP Law in Dean & Dyer: Introduction to Intellectual Property Law. He is a contributor to the Intellectual Property Law Short Course, presented annually by Stellenbosch University and the IP Unit of the University of Cape Town
