Nondumiso Phenyane is a lecturer in the Public and Mercantile Law Departments at Stellenbosch University. She is currently the course convenor for the final year module on the Law of Evidence. She also teaches basic principles of Labour Law, Insolvency Law, Security and Methods of Payment as part of a Mercantile Law service course.

She holds a Bachelor of Social Science (B Soc Sci) and a Postgraduate Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Cape Town (UCT). Prior to joining Stellenbosch University, she was a Law Researcher at the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA). In line with her interest in procedural law, Nondumiso has done legal research for the Juta & Co Commentary on the Criminal Procedure Act since 2017. In 2016 Nondumiso worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the UCT, tutoring the Law of Evidence, Criminal Procedure and International Law.

In June 2019, Nondumiso was selected as one of the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans. In 2016, she was awarded the South African Law Reform Commission (SALRC) Ismail Mohammed Law Reform Essay price in the LLM category.  In 2016, she was the recipient of the Ethel Walt Human Rights Scholarship for her LLM. Nondumiso is also a graduate of the South Africa-Washington International Program (SAWIP) – a leadership development programme which enabled her to serve as an apprentice at C-Span Cable Network and later at the Washington National Cathedral.

Nondumiso’s research interests are the Law of Evidence and access to justice in urban townships, criminal justice and conflict resolution.

Nondumiso Phenyane is ʼn dosent in die Departemente Publiek- en Handelsreg aan die Universiteit van Stellenbosch. Sy is tans die kursuskoördineerder vir die finale jaarsmodule, Bewysreg. Sy gee ook basiese beginsels van arbeidsreg, insolvensiereg, sekuriteit en betaalmetodes as deel van ʼn handelsregkursus.

Nondumiso het ʼn Baccalaureus in Sosiale Wetenskap (BsocSci), ʼn nagraadse Baccalareus in Regte en ʼn Magister in Regte aan die Universiteit van Kaapstad verwerf.

Voor Nondumiso by die US aangesluit het, was sy as Regsnavorser by die Hoogste Hof van Appèl aangstel. Haar belangstelingsveld is in Prosedurele reg – Nondumiso doen ook regsnavorsing vir die Juta & Co Commentary on the Criminal Procedural Act sedert 2017. In 2016 het sy as ʼn gegradueerde onderrigassistent, tutor vir Bewysreg, Strafreg en Internasionalereg gewerk.

Nondumiso was in Junie 2019 as een van die Mail & Gaurdian se “200 Young South Africans” aangewys. In 2016, het sy die prys van die Suid-Afrikaanse Regshervormings Kommisse (SARHK) se Ismail Mohammed Law Reform Essay in die LLM-kategorie ontvang. Sy het in 2016 die “Ethel Walt Human Rights”-beurs ontvang vir haar meester-studies. Sy is ʼn gegradueerde van die Suid-Afrikaanse Washington Internasionale program (SAWIP) wat haar die geleentheid gebied het om by die C-SPAN Cable Netwerk en later by die Washington Nationale Cathedral as vakleerling op te tree.

Nondumiso se belangstellingsvelde sluit in Bewysreg en Toegang tot Geregtigheid in stedelike nedersettings, Dispuutresolusie in verband met stakings en protesoptogte sowel as Leer-en-onderrig.
