Dr Mary Nel received the Rector’s Award for Outstanding Teaching in 2002. In addition to Criminal Law, Criminology and Human Rights, she has an interest in the teaching and learning process, especially regarding integrating innovative electronic teaching techniques and traditional teaching methods. In 2004 Dr Nel was awarded a full Commonwealth (Cambridge) Scholarship to study at Cambridge University. After completing an M.Phil in Criminology she received the Manuel Lopez-Rey Graduate Prize for the highest marks obtained for the course in 2004-2005.

 

Dr Mary Nel ontvang die rektors- toekenning vir uitstaande onderrig in 2002. Haar belangstellingsveld sluit in Strafreg, Kriminologie, Menseregte en die leer- en onderrigproses veral met betrekking tot geïntegreerde, innoverende elektroniese onderrigmetodes en tegnieke. In 2004 ontvang Dr Nel die Commonwealth (Cambridge) Beurs aan die Universiteit Cambridge te studeer. Met die voltooiing van haar M.Phil in Kriminologie ontvang sy die Manuel Lopez-Rey Graduate Prys vir die beste resultate verwerf in hierdie program in 2004-2005.

Fields of specialisation

Her field of research includes criminal law and human rights law, including the constitutionality of existing crimes and the need for the criminal justice system to function more effectively.

Areas van belangstelling

Strafreg, menseregte, die grondwetlikheid van bestaande misdrywe en die behoefte vir die strafregplegingstelsel om meer effektief te funksioneer.
