CHRIS OTTO (CHAIRMAN) | BCOM (1970) LL B (1972) (STELL)

Chris is an entrepreneur. He is a founding member of the PSG Group, and was a part of the team that founded Capitec Bank. He still serves as director of both companies. After graduation he spent 25 years in Johannesburg, learning of business and people. He has lived in Stellenbosch since 1997, and both his children are alumni of the University. He hopes that his grandchildren will become Maties one day, too.

GEORGE STEYN | BA (1983) LL B (1985) (STELL)

George matriculated from Paarl Gymnasium. He then joined the PEP Group immediately after graduation, and was appointed managing director in 2005 and served in this position until his retirement in 2011. He also serves on the Council of the University of Stellenbosch. Currently, George resides in Stellenbosch with his wife, Miets. They are also the proud parents of four children, all alumni of the University.

PROFESSOR GERHARD LUBBE | BA LL B (STELL) LLM (YALE)

Professor Lubbe started his professional academic career in 1977 as a lecturer in Private Law at the University. He also served as Dean to the Faculty of Law for five years, retiring from this position in 2012. Professor Lubbe’s main focal areas are the law of contracts, cession, and estoppel, of which he has published several articles. He follows in the footsteps of the legendary Proff. JC de Wet. He is married to Lyn and the proud father of three daughters

MICHIEL LE ROUX | BCOM LL B (1972) DCOM (HC) (STELL)

Michiel graduated from the University of Stellenbosch and, in addition, received a honourary doctorate in Commerce for his pioneering work in the field of banking. During his tenure at Stellenbosch University, he resided in Eendrag, where he and the Chair of the Law Faculty Trust, Chris Otto, shared a room in his first year. Michiel has been living in Stellenbosch since 1968, and has seen four of his children graduate from the University.

PAUL MEAKER | BA LL B (1975) (STELL)

Paul matriculated from the Grootte Schuur High School and subsequently studied law at Stellenbosch. He worked as a lawyer for nearly three decades, for the most of it as a partner at Cluver Markotter. He’s current occupation is that of businessman, in Stellenbosch He is married to Erna and the father of three children, all of them alumni of the University. They currently live in Stellenbosch.

PROFESSOR STAN DU PLESSIS | HonsBCOM  (1994), MPHIL (CANTAB) (1996), PHD (STELL) (2003)

Stan du Plessis is a macroeconomist at Stellenbosch University where he is Chief Operating Officer and former Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences. He is also a Professor of Economics. He studied at the Universities of Cambridge and Stellenbosch and is a former President of the Economic Society of South Africa. He was a member of the “Harvard group” of economists who advised the South African government on policy since 2006. His scholarly publications have focused on monetary policy and the business cycle but he has also written on wide range of related topics. He is a National Research Foundation rated researcher.

STEVE GEORGALA | BCOM (1979) LL B (1981) (STELL) HDIP CO LAW (WITS)

Steve articled at the renowned Big Five law firm Webber Wentzel, and was subsequently appointed as partner. After his partnership at Webber Wentzel, Steven joined Maitland International Holdings in Luxembourg, and assisted with the expansion to a certifiable global giant. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Maitland Group. He is married to Corrie and has three children, currently living in London.
