Our family have been torn apart by mental illness. As I write here I feel overcome with sadness. Not because of what is happening, but by the lack of insight the other members of my family have. Some family members are not even aware of what is happening in our family.

I consider myself lucky because I have done extensive research on the Internet & thru reading books. Self help techniques through the years. Me and my son pray everyday just for survival.

Brief history - mom (alzheimer) deceased. Dad (depression) deceased. Older brother (through my own observations) sociopathic tendencies - undiagnosed (living). Older sister (bipolar) diagnosed. Son (schizophrenic) diagnosed - living. Other sister - undiagnosed. Youngest brother (drinks excessively) although qualified engineer (living) violent behaviour.

My son is taking daily medication regularly and doing excellent. He is working fulltime and coping very well. We make sure that we have a peaceful life and communicate regularly.

I have come to the conslusion that one can only empower oneself though being aware of mental diseases.

My problem is family members not being aware that they have a problem at hand. How do I cope with certain family members that try to copy by drinking excessively, have mood swings, blaming others for their circumstances, manipulate and lie and have violent tendencies that is taken out on other family members.

Awareness is the key. My advice to people is first to make sure they are informed and to seek help in the right places.

Thank you for your great website. Im a regular listener to RSG radio where I heard about your site.

RESEARCH INVITATION
I am looking for people (25yrs+, employed on a full-time basis, living in SA) who would be willing to participate in a research study focused on well-being in adults.

Participation would require you to complete a questionnaire which should take about 20-30 minutes.

If you, or anyone you know, are willing to participate in the study, or if you work at a company who would be willing to let their employees participate, please send me an email with your email address and I will forward the information and the questionnaires through to you.

Good Day,
Kindly advise which medication can i use to treat my social anxiety problem, it causes a lot of problems in my work life, home life and every personal relationship in general, people generally avoid me and even my friends lately stay away from me because i find it difficult to laugh and be social, i need help, have no serious personal problems but the fact that people shy away from me is a cause for concern. I need to get my mood back to normal and i suspect that something is wrong with me medically/physically/mentally.

Regards,
Ipelegeng
