Mobile-based ITS analysis and interventions in the minibus taxi industry
Masters in Engineering Student

Safe and efficient transportation are very necessary in the minibus taxi industry and informal public transport in general. My research focuses on the use of ITS technology to improve safety and efficiency in the minibus taxi industry. GPS data collected from fleets is used to extract risky driver behaviour such as speeding, harsh deceleration and acceleration. The aim of this project is to locate notorious regions along routes and to investigate the impact of factors such as time of the day, day of the week and season on driver behaviour. The effectiveness of in-vehicle and roadside interventions in safety improvement are also been analysed.
