The site layout is user friendly and I like the graphics.
I agree – the layout is very user friendly and I could find everything I needed immediately. The research toolkit is very well thought out and written, and very helpful. The site contains links to all the information I need, without unnecessary clutter. Thank you for developing this.
Dit is ‘n baie goeie webtuiste en dankie daarvoor, maar… Behalwe vir die terugvoer-bladsy, het die webtuiste, (“Postgrad”), nie ‘n opsie vir Afrikaans nie, soos op die “MyMaties” webtuiste nie. Dit sal waardeer word as daardie opsie ook gegee kan word.

Dankie vir jou kommentaar. Dit is uiteraard ‘n proses. Op die stadium toe ons begin het, het ons in Engels begin vir die praktiese rede dat ek Engelssprekend is en spreek myself die beste uit in Engels. Ons sal moet sien wat die toekoms inhou. Ek hoop dat jy tog die inhoud bruikbaar sal vind.

The layout is easy to browse through. The information given on this site is helpful and makes me feel more confident about how to find the right resources to help me complete my postgraduate studies. It really is a great initiative from this university. I especially like the link that connects me to other postgrad students. Will use it often.

i consider the layout of the new postgrad web portal to be well done. although it ist designed for academic needs, it would be helpful if there was a calender showing the activities of the student societies that you sigend up for. i find it annoying that there are still so many webpages, like personal information or webstudies, that pop up in a new window. please translate the venue & module timetables for international students.

hi, the site is very user friendly and a lot more personalized. My onlu suggestion is to keep the home screen as clean as possibly. This can be done by using fewer images. it allows for easier navigation. But a great concept all in all!

Some of the other links in the research toolkit, such as http://www.uwlax.edu/biology/communication/ReviewPapers.html#What is a review
also do not work. You may have to work through the whole toolkit and check each page. Otherwise it is a fantastic site! The library shortcuts are especially helpful.

Indeed, I have set aside some time next week to systematically work through the entire Research Toolkit and correct all the reported link failures and hopefully locate any other gremlins too. Thank you very much – this is part of the purpose of the exercise before we release it to everyone!

Weet jy, ons het voorsiening vir ‘n vinnige epos-skakel gemaak maar toe het sommiges vir ons oorreed dat studente in die gewoonte is om ‘n verskeidenheid ander epos-stelsels soos gmail, ens. te gebruik en os het toe besluit, ons los die voorkeeur oor aan die gebruiker. Nietemin, dalk moet ons weer daaroor dink of dalk ondersoek of daar ‘n plek kan wees waar iemand hulle portaal kan personaliseer. Dankie vir die terugvoer.

dankie dat ek kon deel wees van hierdie voorstudie! hierdie webblad is absoluut ‘n baie groot stap vorentoe! nagraadse studente het maar altyd aan die agterste speen gesuig en nou is daar ‘n ruimte spesifiek om hul behoeftes aan te spreek. regtig dankie hiervoor! ek dink dit is gebruikersvriendelik en ‘n baie handige “tool” om te he! die bemarking hierrondom en om seker te maak ELKE nagraadse student weet hiervan, sal ook baie belangrik wees.

Ek is so bly om jou terugvoer te kry! Ons wil binnekort die portaal bekend stel aan alle nagraadse studente maar uiteraard, veral rondom die tegniese probleme wat amper onvermydelik is, moes ons eers die proeflopie doen. Jy raak op ‘n interessante kwessie – hoe maak ons seker dat almal wat moet weet wel daarvan weet? My eerste boodskap hieroor het per epos uitgegaan. Daarna het ‘n tweede boodskap per sms uitgegegaan. Ek dink die reaksie op die sms was vinniger maar wel amper ewe veel wat dalk aandui dat die teikengehoor meer ingestel is op sms as epos. Nietemin, ek waardeer jou terugvoer en ons sal baie hard probeer om seker te maak dat Stellenbosch Postgrad goed bekendgestel word.

The site is great and helps in making research enjoyable but you still need to work on some links as they are inaccessible (e.g. http://gradschool.duke.edu/gsa/publications/prescription/writers_block.php) in the research toolkit(writing up –> writer’s block)…It is also easy to navigate through the site

Thank you for your feedback. The Library have made a federated search tool available in the portal called SUNSearch. You will find the link on the homepage of Stellenbosch Postgrad. SUNSearch is very powerful. You must be logged in and if you click on it, it gives a search window as well as an option

I am struggling with atypical reference formats for my literature review eg World Health Organization guidelines etc. Is there anywhere on this site where I could ask an expert about the correct format as accepted by Stellenbosch University? The experienced Prof’s seem to also shy away from these questions since they are not used to use internet resources as references.

We are wondering if there is not a need for a type of Stellenbosch Postgrad Community where the type of question you have just posed can be debated amongst peers. great website, but why is that all the lectures and workshops take place in the main campus. what about Tygerberg? And will there ever be a research commons facility this side?

The offering is definitely concentrated on the main campus simply because it is central and serves a large audience. All students are welcome to attend in Stellenbosch. From time to time, there are specific offerings on the other campuses too. We regularly send out notices and I hope that you will find something useful.

Thank you for your comment and for your interest in our workshop- and lecture schedule. I am the co-ordinator of the postgraduate skills development programme and if you let me know which workshops you are particularly interested in, we can organise such an event for Tygerberg campus. Just to mention that there are also two groups of people who are involved in training and development in the Health Sciences: The first is the Research Development and Support at Tygerberg campus and you can find them at http://www.sun.ac.za/rds They have a training calendar (click on Training on the left) focused on Research Development, which postgraduate students may also attend. Then there is the postgraduate co-ordinator at Tygerberg, Yolokazi Ntungwa (yolokazi@sun.ac.za) who should be able to let you know of upcoming events at Tygerberg.
Since your post, we have also updated our website to include the Writing Lab workshops that do take place at Tygerberg and this should reflect in the portal soon. We are also working on placing the Tygerberg capacity development programme on the portal. Please also let me know if you are aware of any needs at Tygerberg campus which we can try to address
