Prof Magda Fourie appointed on Third Umalusi Council
Prof Magda Fourie, Vice-Rector: Teaching at Stellenbosch University, has been appointed as member of the Third Umalusi Council. Umalusi is the Quality Council for general and further education and training in South Africa. It is responsible for the certification of, among others, the National Senior Certificate (NSC).
Prof Fourie has been the Vice-Rector: Teaching at Stellenbosch University since October 2007. She also served on the Second Umalusi Council and describes her re-appointment to the Council as an honour and privilege.
“The expansion of Umalusi’s mandate by the National Qualifications Framework Act, 2008, from certification to developing and managing a sub-framework of qualifications for general and further education is particularly challenging, but also hugely important for the future of South African education. Being part of the Umalusi Council affords me the opportunity to be part of these exciting developments, but also to strengthen the relationship between Umalusi and the higher education sector for whom the reliability and validity of the NSC is of prime importance,” said Prof Fourie.
Mrs Angie Motshekga, Minister of Basic Education announced Prof Fourie’s appointment together with the 14 other members of the Umalusi Council who will be serving for the period from 8 June 2010 to 7 June 2014.
