Improve your search strategy
Mon 18 Oct 2010, Narga B (Room 2087, Admin A), 13:00-14:00 (RSVP by Fri 15 Oct 2010)
The resounding success of the initial ‘Improve your search strategy’ workshop has prompted the Library and Information Service to arrange a repeat lecture. This repeat workshop will be presented by Annemarie Maritz, one of Elsevier’s representatives, and Elbie van Wyk of the SU Library and Information Service. In a recent study it was reported that about 90% of all authors felt unsure that they had retrieved all relevant literature.
This was partly due to the fact that their approach was one of “trial and error”. This demonstration focuses on the various generic search strategies: “Quick and dirty” or “easy” searches, the “building blocks” approach, etc. Attendees are invited to bring their own search topics, which they will learn to analyse and to structure into search approaches to be executed online. (Samples will be derived from the Scopus and Science Direct database). The content of this demonstration has been developed in cooperation with Dr Eric Sieverts of the University of Amsterdam.
