Information Technology: Changes in internet bandwidth and tariffs
LINESPEED/BANDWIDTH
With the participation of the University in the Sanren and Seacom projects the new bandwidth available to the University is 245.76Mbps of which 147.456Mbps is for international access. It is foreseen that further planned development within the Sanren and Seacom projects will by the end of 2011 allow the University access to a total Internet bandwidth of a formidable 1000Mbps (1Gbps) of which 600Mbps will be for international access. This dramatic increase in available bandwidth will result in an equivalent increase in the service levels that will greatly add value to the Internet activities of especially the research community and the more intensive academic users.
