Media24 Rachel’s Angels Trust Two Oceans Initiative
A group of students from the University Stellenbosch i.e. Matthew de la Hey, Alan Clarke, Mike Hay, Wesley Cullum, Tamika Wilson, Kate Anderson, Nardus Hattingh, Matthew Murray, Joni Groom and Kate Johnson approached the Rachel’s Angels Trust with the idea to run the Two Oceans Half-Marathon in the Rachel’s Angels name to make the general public aware of the Rachel’s Angels project and at the same time to raise money for the benefit of education.
The Rachel’s Angels board of trustees approved the student’s idea and this lead to the establishment of the Rachel’s Angels – Two Oceans event that will hopefully take place every year to raise funds for a small-farm school library project. The group of students and Rolene Liebenberg, a Stellenbosch University staff member and Rachel’s Angels trustee will run the Two Oceans Marathon on 23 April, to raise funds for Raithby Primary School, the first beneficiary of this pilot project.
Raithby Primary is a small farm school adjacent to Stellenbosch. The school caters for 163 learners from Grade 1 to 7. The school has no library or computer facilities, relying only on a travelling library that visits periodically. The school desperately needs help with library books and computer facilities. .
The students and the Rachel’s Angels are appealing to all staff members, students and community to help them raise funds for Raithby Primary. Any donations can be made towards any runner for every kilometre they run.
