USBD warning: Robbery-related incidents

The USBD has warned of robbery-related incidents whereby students are being targeted. Remember robberies can occur at any time of the day/night. STUDENTS MUST REFRAIN FROM WALKING ALONE, ESPECIALLY AFTER DARK.

One is always safer when walking in a group, especially at night. Make use of the Green Route. Security officers can escort students. This service is available daily between 19:00 to 05:00.

Walk confidently, purposefully and at a fast pace. Be observant of your surroundings.  Avoid walking in dark and deserted areas and stay away from shortcuts. Avoid walking in isolated places at night. If you have to walk there, wear something light in colour and carry a torch. You can even carry pepper spray. Pepper spray can be purchased at the USBD, at a cost of R50 each.

If you suspect you are being followed, change direction and walk to the nearest place where there are people and contact the USBD or SAPS immediately.

Know the telephone numbers of the USBD, 021-808 2330/2333 and the SAPS emergency 10111 number. Obtain a good description of any suspicious people and report it to the USBD at 021-808 2330/2333 immediately.

  1. Can I report suspicious behaviour via this comment box since my cell is not working?

A red/maroon bakkie with an image/sticker on the back (shaped like a typical black tattoo) was spotted in Ezperanza, Hofmeyer str.

Aprox 6/7 men were climbing out of the vehicle.

As I live there, this was strange. I just went by.

    Thank you for your time
    Keep a close eye!

  2. Students can contact the USBD on 021-808 2330/2333 for security guards to escort them from the test/exam location to their place of residence once they have completed the test/exam. Remember the shuttle service available from 21:00 evenings.

  3. Can security escorts be arranged for our students returning home after evening tests on campus?
Please give details on how our students can arrange for escort by security officers.
