Free workshop

Stellenbosch University Language Centre

16 and 17 February 2012

On 16 and 17 February 2012, we are presenting our popular workshop series, Effective minutes for successful meetings: a two-day workshop series. Participants have the option to attend either day1 or day 2 or both days in the series. However Day 1 equips the participant to fully engage with the topic on Day 2.

Day 1: Meeting and minute procedures

In this workshop you will get an opportunity to sharpen your minute-taking skills in an interactive, practical way. And you will have a chance to get answers to questions you have always wanted to ask about both taking effective minutes and the meeting process in general.

The presenter is Lorinda Nel, an authority in the field of minute writing. She has been involved in the Language Centre’s minute-writing workshops since 2006. The workshop will be presented in English.

Day 2: Writing skills for effective minutes

This full-day workshop is aimed at administrative personnel who are responsible for keeping the minutes of meetings in their work environments. The workshop will consist of a theoretical session and a more practical session. To make the practical session as valuable and relevant as possible for participants we require each participant to bring at least one set of minutes that he/she has written to the workshop. These minutes can be either in English or in Afrikaans.

During the morning session we will focus on the more general writing skills needed to write minutes. In the practical session after lunch each participant will have an opportunity to discuss the minutes that he/she has written with a writing consultant and receive answers to his/her own questions on the writing of minutes.

The presenter is Ruth Baitsewe who is an experienced lecturer and presenter of workshops on various subjects in the field of professional communication
