Intimate lieder evening for Endler concert series

Having just played host to the ever-successful Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival, activities at the Endler Hall Stellenbosch continue with the second season of the 2012 Endler Concert Series. The first concert of this season takes place on 4 August at 20:00 and features the award winning local mezzo-soprano, Minette du Toit-Pearce. Du Toit-Pearce will be accompanied by well-known vocal accompanist, Philipus Hugo at the piano as well as violist, Emile de Roubaix.

Minette du Toit-Pearce and Philipus Hugo

The great German lieder tradition will be represented by Brahms, Richard Strauss, Mahler and Alban Berg. Brahms’ two sublime songs, Op 91, Gestillte Sehnsucht and Geistliches Wiegenlied will feature Emile de Roubaix on viola in a part that Brahms, who also played the viola, conceivably wrote for himself. Du Toit-Pearce has in recent years been hailed as an excellent interpreter of French music and audiences can also look forward to the sounds of Ravel in Chanson hébraïque from “Quatre Chants Populaires” and Kaddish from “Deux melodies hebraïques”. The recently deceased South African composer, Roelof Temmingh will be honoured in a performance of his setting of D.J. Opperman’s satirical verses, Met Apologie. The concert will conclude with the vibrant sounds of Spain and the world of Cabaret.
