You are invited to participate in the Dancing In Style 2013 competition

The Maties Dance Society is the official dance society of the University of Stellenbosch, offering Latin American and Ballroom dance lessons to students, scholars and adults of all abilities.  As a society, we encourage dance through social events as well as competitions.  Our main goal is to have fun and for this reason we arrange lots of socials, workshops and functions to raise funds.

2013 promises to be very exciting for MDS as we are undertaking the “Dancing in Style” competition for the second time.  This competition is based on the well known TV show Strictly Come Dancing.  The stars of our competition are US personnel, students on the SRC, SC, ABR and Prims.  For those who do not know Strictly Come Dancing, the idea is that a star is personally trained by an instructor in ballroom and Latin American dances for a few weeks, and then performs competing against the other stars.

We therefore invite US personnel, to be part of this grand occasion.  The competition will consist of two sections; Student leaders and US personnel.  Each US personnel contestant will be assigned a dance instructor/partner who will teach them three dances (Ballroom, Latin and Open section).  All instructors will be members or previous members of MDS that are already on Advance or Star Grade level.  Training will be one to two hours per week, ending with the big gala competition to show off their dancing skills.
