SU mobi site launched

Stellenbosch University (SU) has recently launched its mobile website m.sun.ac.za – giving you up-to-date campus news and information in the palm of your hand.

The website in its mobi format is available to all university communities, but it is especially students who will benefit from the services such as meal reservations for those who live in residences. Other services include: easy access to campus news, examination timetables and halls, results and access to library resources etc.

According to Ralph Pina, Director: IT (Development), the idea was not to create a complete version of the site, but rather to gradually provide useful services to mobile users. An additional aim is to minimise peak loads on web portals, eg during exams when students want to look up their examination marks, and to distribute the load to mobile applications.

“The mobile site is aimed at making apps which are already available on the web portals, readily available on smart phones. This is the first phase; more apps will be added in the future,” said Lize Esterhuizen, Head: e-Communications and Development.

Anyone with existing apps, ideas for mobile apps or who is in the process of developing new apps, must please contact the e-communications team at  ecomms@sun.ac.za.
