How serious must we take climate change and what can be done about it? These questions were raised when the topic of climate change was debated during a special session of the Annual Research Meeting of the Department of Botany and Zoology at Stellenbosch University.

Prof Steven Chown from Stellenbosch University (SU) has been named as the inaugural recipient of the Martha T. Muse Prize for Science and Policy in Antarctica worth $100 000 (about R750 000), in recognition of his outstanding work on the study of invasive alien species and the effects of climate change and human interactions in the region.
