SERAJ member, Philip Swanepoel, awarded scholarship to attend intensive course at Åbo Akademi University
Philip Swanepoel, who is currently in the final stages of his LLM degree under the supervision of Doctor Shanelle van der Berg and Professor Sandy Liebenberg, has been admitted to the Intensive Course on Contemporary Challenges to International Human Rights Law at the end of November. The course is organised by the Institute for Human Rights which is situated at Åbo Akademi University in Turku, Finland. The course will deal with themes such as human rights and the rise of populism, socio-economic rights and resource constraints, politics of counterterrorism and the restriction of human rights for political purposes.
Philip has been awarded a full scholarship for attending the course from funds made available by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The Ministry has furthermore made special funds available which will enable Philip to conduct research at the Institute for two weeks following the course. This will give him a valuable opportunity to expand on his LLM research relating to effective relief for human rights violations.
