To start this off with I can promise you that a summer school abroad will change your life. It will broaden your horizons as you will meet people from all over the world and at the end of it all you will definitely be more mature, better informed about European business and culture and you will feel richer because of all the unforgettable experiences that you shared with people that were strangers a few weeks before. So if you are not sure if you should apply, definitely and without a doubt DO IT.

Maak reg vir die tyd van jou lewe. Teen die tyd wat jy hoor dat jy gekeur is, het jy nog géén idee wat vir jou voorlê nie. Dit was ‘n ervaring wat geen geld in die wêreld kan koop nie.
Voorbereiding:
Handel die admin gedeelte so vinnig as moontlik af om onnodige stres te voorkom. Die Somerskool word in Junie/Julie aangebied en dit beteken dat dit hoogseisoen in Europa is. Dit veroorsaak dat vliegtuigkaartjies skaars en duur is. Hoe gouer jy ‘n vliegkaartjie koop, hoe beter vir jou eie sak. Indien moontlik, probeer om saam met van die ander Maties te vlieg. Dit is net lekkerder om saam met iemand op die lughawe te sit en wag, te verdwaal en dit is sommer ook ‘n goeie geleentheid om die Maties wat saam met jou gaan swot, beter te leer ken op pad Duitsland toe.

Pre-departure:
When I received the news that I was accepted to attend the Summer school at interDaF College in Leipzig, I was ecstatic. I couldn’t believe that I had the opportunity to go to Germany! The course consisted of four weeks learning the German language and also learning more about the German culture.
As soon as I got the news, the first thing I did was sort out my Visa application. The Postgraduate & International Office gave me all the relevant information of what I would need before I send my application. But one can also check online on the Embassy’s website which documents are needed. I went to the German Embassy situated in Cape Town with all the documents and within a week I received my Visa. I was surprised that it didn’t take longer because I had only a couple of weeks to plan this trip, but the Embassy was so helpful and realised that they could not stall my application too much — very nice.
