    I guess it is obvious for anyone planning to study abroad for a semester to go through the application process with the International office at Stellenbosch University and obtain a nomination for an exchange at a partner university. Recounting the application process would then seem trivial and routine considering that the exchange coordinator has already so far laboured hard enough to provide all required information and a flooded the website with experience reports and FAQs for any aspiring student to refer to.     Opting for an All-year Summer:

    There’s nothing quite like applying for an overseas experience as a student. You fill in a form with little expectations and send it away with minute hopes of an acceptance notification finding its way back to you. The incredible benefit of this situation is that when that email does come back to you, it should be a pleasant surprise. You can hear opportunity hammering at the door, eager to steal you away – but don’t get ahead of yourself, there’s plenty of delicate planning and managing to do before the trip.

    Pre-departure:

    SU International has an excellent preparatory programme for all the exchange students. A meet-and-greet session allowed the exchange candidates to meet other students going abroad and it was there where I met students who would be travelling to the same country and institutions as I was. This helped to lay the foundation for some great friendships before leaving abroad. This event was proceeded by a short departure workshop which was full of useful information and insight into the life and mind-set of an exchange student and was highly beneficial.
