This forms part of activities worldwide in support of open access to information, celebrated during Open Access Week 18-24 October 2010.
On this day the Rector or his designate will be signing the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities (a first for Africa and South Africa) to demonstrate the University’s commitment to openly sharing its research output with Africa and the rest of the world. The seminar will be broadcasted in real time via the Internet – all in the spirit of opening access and sharing. More information is available at: http://oa.sun.ac.za
During this event various aspects of open access will be explored, amongst others, publishing in an open access journal, editing an open access journal, the use of open source software to facilitate greater sharing of information, a presentation by Mr Mark Shuttleworth, and more.
