Most of the pioneering work has been completed and the merit of the initiative seems self-evident. It is our aim to extend this initiative to other higher education institutions by inviting them to learn from our experience and by sharing our knowledge. Sharing, co-operation and organic growth embodies the spirit of the Ukwanda concept; by developing novel concepts, defining the principles of successful operationalization and passing on the knowledge/experience gained to benefit as many people as possible, in SA and beyond.
Postgraduate students from Stellenbosch University, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences also make use of the rural platform that Ukwanda provides, although this is mainly coordinated and supervised by the individual departments themselves. Ukwanda also receives international students interested in the health of rural or underserved communities eg. MSc students in International Health from Oxford University.
