Welcome home SANAE 55

The S.A. Agulhas II pulled in at East Pier, Victoria & Alfred Waterfront midday on the 7th of February this year.

It has been a very successful year on the continent for the 55th SANAE Overwintering Team, as well as for scientists, maintenance team (returning later this month) and crew on-board the S.A. Agulhas II – part of the relief voyage. Read more about the relief voyage and expectations of overwintering teams on Antarctica here.

The S.A. Agulhas II will now be at East Pier next to the Department of Environmental Affairs building until the end of the month, after which she will be moved into dry dock in Simon’s Town for necessary maintenance.

The shipwill be back at sea on the 6th of April on her way to South Africa’s sub-Antarctic Marion Island with the 74th Marion Overwintering Team, relief voyage scientists and the research station maintenance team.
