{"id":4865,"date":"2020-03-21T08:35:15","date_gmt":"2020-03-21T08:35:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/antarcticlegacy\/?p=4865"},"modified":"2020-03-21T08:35:15","modified_gmt":"2020-03-21T08:35:15","slug":"world-poetry-day-poems-from-the-alsa-archive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/antarcticlegacy\/2020\/03\/21\/world-poetry-day-poems-from-the-alsa-archive\/","title":{"rendered":"World Poetry Day &#8211; Poems from the ALSA Archive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What would you do if you have to spend more than a year in an isolated place?\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanap.ac.za\/expeditions\">Overwinterers<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanap.ac.za\/explore\/stations\">SANAE<\/a> and on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanap.ac.za\/explore\/stations\">Marion<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanap.ac.za\/explore\/stations\">Gough<\/a> Island tried their hand at writing poems.\u00a0 On World Poetry day I had a look at the poems that were preserved on the digital <a href=\"http:\/\/alp.lib.sun.ac.za\">archive of the Antarctic Legacy of South Africa<\/a> and below I share a few excerpts with you, (click on the link to read the full poem).<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;In celebrating World Poetry Day, March 21, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/observances\/world-poetry-day\">UNESCO recognizes<\/a> the unique ability of poetry to capture the creative spirit of the human mind. Poetry reaffirms our common humanity by revealing to us that individuals, everywhere in the world, share the same questions and feelings.
