However, on 3 December the <em>S.A. Agulhas II<\/em>\u00a0will depart from the V&amp;A Waterfront in Cape Town to SANAE IV base in Antarctica. \u00a0Every year a new SANAE team departs for a period of 14 months around the first week of December.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa also maintains bases on Marion Island and Gough Island in the Southern Ocean . \u00a0Marion Island and Prince Edward Island form the Prince Edward Islands group, South Africa&#8217;s only overseas territory.<\/p>\n<p>So perhaps next year South Africa will celebrate international Antarctica Day. \u00a0The Antarctic Legacy of South Africa will be there to help!<\/p>\n<p><em>Ria Olivier, Archivist, Antarctic Legacy of South Africa, Department of Botany and Zoology, Stellenbosch University, 01 December 2015\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Will South Africa celebrate Antarctic Day today?
