{"id":1164,"date":"2021-05-04T09:54:46","date_gmt":"2021-05-04T07:54:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/bibnuus\/?p=1164"},"modified":"2021-05-04T09:54:46","modified_gmt":"2021-05-04T07:54:46","slug":"update-open-access-publication-agreements-and-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/bibnuus\/en\/2021\/05\/04\/update-open-access-publication-agreements-and-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Update: Open access publication agreements and funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1137\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/bibnuus\/files\/2021\/03\/DSC01305-crpdres-940x315-1-300x101.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"836\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/bibnuus\/files\/2021\/03\/DSC01305-crpdres-940x315-1-300x101.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/bibnuus\/files\/2021\/03\/DSC01305-crpdres-940x315-1-768x257.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/bibnuus\/files\/2021\/03\/DSC01305-crpdres-940x315-1.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/>\u200b<\/p>\n<p>\u200bThe Library reminds researchers of the institutional <strong>open access publication (OAP) agreements <\/strong>reached with the following publishers, which afford <strong>article processing charge (APC) benefits<\/strong>, and which were <a href=\"http:\/\/library.sun.ac.za\/en-za\/announcements\/Lists\/Posts\/Post.aspx?ID=230\">communicated <\/a>to the campus community on 26 February 2021:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cambridge University Press (CUP) \u2013 no cost for SU authors<\/li>\n<li>Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) \u2013 no cost for SU authors<\/li>\n<li>MDPI \u2013 10% discount for SU authors<\/li>\n<li>Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) \u2013 15% discount for SU authors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Regrettably, the Library&#8217;s fund in support of open access publication (OAP) funding has ceased to exist<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Library had some funds available to support OAP author fees in 2021. However, due to the number of applications received, this amount has been spent and no further funding will be available in future. We therefore request that researchers do not submit any further OAP funding applications to the Library.<\/p>\n<p>The Library will <strong>continue to administer<\/strong> the University\u2019s deposit account with <strong>SpringerNature<\/strong> (formerly BioMed Central), which will allow SU researchers to submit open access articles to SpringerNature without having to pay author fees to SpringerNature before publication, at <a href=\"https:\/\/preview.springernature.com\/gp\/open-research\/institutional-agreements\/individual-institutional-agreements\">https:\/\/preview.springernature.com\/gp\/open-research\/institutional-agreements\/individual-institutional-agreements<\/a>. Submissions under the University\u2019s deposit account will afford researchers 15% discount on the article processing charge (APC) for some SpringerNature titles. <strong>However,<\/strong> <strong>in future researchers will have to refund the Library 100% of these author fees, plus 15% VAT, upon publication<\/strong>. By submitting an article to SpringerNature against the University\u2019s deposit account, a researcher agrees to refund the full cost to the Library after publication. The Library will claim this refund from the researcher upon receiving notification from SpringerNature that an article submitted against the University\u2019s deposit account has been published.
