Project Background

There are numerous – and an ever-increasing number – of studies on invasive alien plant species (IAP’s) globally and in South Africa (see for example reviews in Hirsch, Geerts et al., 2020; Wilson, Geerts et al., 2020). Surprisingly the impacts – other than some well-known examples – have received less attention than one would expect, in particular in South Africa.

For this study we ask to what extent does IAP’s change the distribution, movement and activity patterns, and richness of mammals across a gradient of invasion. We will then compare this to pristine areas and plantations.
