Why was it scanned? It was scanned as part of a research project investigating the fang morphology, with results to be published soon. The second answer is more tricky, the interest is to check for aluminium bond wires between the square chip and the circuits that run up close to it. These bond wires are usually copper and easily seen on 2D X-rays but here there seem to be none.
