{"id":855,"date":"2014-08-26T23:03:50","date_gmt":"2014-08-26T21:03:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/ctscanner\/?p=855"},"modified":"2017-10-18T14:22:21","modified_gmt":"2017-10-18T12:22:21","slug":"drill-core-ct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/ctscanner\/drill-core-ct\/","title":{"rendered":"Drill core CT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Full 3D X-ray imaging of drill cores is a fast, nondestructive method that can fit into the drill core analysis workflow, allowing the geologist to get quick images and 3D information of each drill core, non-destructively. This allows the geologist to select good samples for further analysis by traditional methods such as assay, XRF, ICPMS, etc. We demonstrate two examples here which would correspond to 1 hr per sample or 20 minutes per sample, respectively, when in large batches. This makes the method extremely cost efficient.<\/p>\n<p>The workflow shows clear advantages to the geologist in improved access to information, improved quality of final information and total cost saving in the analysis workflow.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/ctscanner\/files\/2014\/08\/workflow.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-861\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/ctscanner\/files\/2014\/08\/workflow-1024x752.jpg\" alt=\"workflow\" width=\"1024\" height=\"752\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/ctscanner\/files\/2014\/08\/workflow-1024x752.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/ctscanner\/files\/2014\/08\/workflow-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/ctscanner\/files\/2014\/08\/workflow.jpg 1499w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the 1st example we present a drill core with two types of dense mineral particles at 0.1 % an 1.2%. Due to the size of the particles, a high resolution scan is required, with good scan quality, resulting in a 25 mm section imaged and analyzed in 1 hr. possible on either type of inclusion, which can provide statistical information on average particle diameter, sphericity, etc. Here some of the inclusions are highlighted in an analysis.<br \/>\n<a
