ACCEPTANCE: MA CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY FOR 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n

DTTC places a strong emphasis on capacity building through training and development. The Centre would like to congratulate both Dionne Jivan and Kyla Meyerson for being accepted at Stellenbosch University and the University of Johannesburg respectively to complete their MA in Clinical Psychology in 2020.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We would like to share their individual journeys. They are situated \u00a0at the DTTC, Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Science.<\/p>\n

\"\"Dionne Jivan<\/strong> joined DTTC in 2012 starting as a data capturer.<\/p>\n

She has since completed her BA degree and a BA Hons in Psychological Counselling as well as an MPhil in Transdisciplinary Health and Development Studies on drug users accessing TB and HIV services in South Africa.<\/p>\n

She accomplished this whilst working full time at the Centre as part of the Socio-behavioural Sciences team.<\/p>\n

\"\"Kyla Meyerson<\/strong><\/p>\n

After completing her Honours in Psychology at the University of Witwatersrand, Kyla Meyerson joined the Socio-behavioural Sciences team in 2017 as a National Research Fund (NRF) intern.<\/p>\n

She has since completed her MA in Psychology on the psychological effects of caregiver-child separation during long-term hospitalisation for drug-resistant tuberculosis.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Making use of all the experience Dionne and Kyla gained whilst working at DTTC, and doing research on various studies as well as in various communities, they applied for an MA in Clinical Psychology at various universities across the country. The application process started with over 300 applicants per university.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After an initial screening of application forms (which comprises of reflective and autobiographical essays), only 10 to 15% of the applicants were invited to selection week: a week of individual and panel interviews, group activities, academic assessments, role-plays and other related tasks. A panel of experts in the field observed these tasks and selected between six to eight students.<\/p>\n

Through hard work and perseverance, Dionne and Kyla were invited to three selection weeks and were one of the eight students selected at Stellenbosch University and the University of Johannesburg respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
