{"id":880,"date":"2019-04-15T15:30:09","date_gmt":"2019-04-15T13:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/dttc\/?p=880"},"modified":"2019-05-30T16:23:24","modified_gmt":"2019-05-30T14:23:24","slug":"world-tb-day-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/dttc\/world-tb-day-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"World TB Day 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-885\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/dttc\/files\/2019\/05\/Its-Time-to-End-TB-400x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/dttc\/files\/2019\/05\/Its-Time-to-End-TB-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/dttc\/files\/2019\/05\/Its-Time-to-End-TB-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/dttc\/files\/2019\/05\/Its-Time-to-End-TB-745x419.jpg 745w, https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/dttc\/files\/2019\/05\/Its-Time-to-End-TB.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>In celebration of World TB Day 2019, the Desmond Tutu TB Centre (DTTC) held a lunch time event on Friday, 29 March 2019 in the Lecture Hall 6, Education Building, Tygerberg Campus for students and staff.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Anneke Hesseling announced the winners of the DTTC social media photo competition, \u00a0#TBsTimeIsUp, which generated much interest amongst staff and students.\u00a0 The winning entries came from, Mercia Kuhn, DTTC (1<sup>st \u00a0<\/sup>); Michelle Moerdyke, 5<sup>th<\/sup> Year Medical student (2<sup>nd<\/sup>) and Dzunisani Boloyi, DTTC (3<sup>rd<\/sup>)<\/p>\n<p>Linking in with the Stop TB Partnership global campaign, \u201cIt\u2019s Time\u201d, our programme, \u201cTB through the Lense of Time\u201d, featured three inspiring presentations by Professor Peter Donald, Dr Sue Purchase and the DTTC Community Advisory Board, viz.,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The history and future of TB treatment &#8211; by Professor Peter Donald<\/li>\n<li>Looking through a different lens: TB in Literature and the Arts \u00a0&#8211; by Dr Sue Purchase<\/li>\n<li>A community perspective on TB &#8211; by the DTTC Community Advisory Board<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thereafter, Professor Hesseling hosted the launch and official opening of the <em>\u201cRobert Gie Ikamva Wing\u201d,<\/em> a new centre for paediatric TB research on K-floor.\u00a0 Professor Robert Gie is considered one of the champions of TB research at Stellenbosch University and the isiXhosa word, \u201cIkamva\u201d means \u201cFuture\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In celebration of World TB Day 2019, the Desmond Tutu TB Centre (DTTC) held a lunch time event on Friday, 29 March 2019 in the Lecture Hall 6, Education Building, Tygerberg Campus for students and staff.
