{"id":1078,"date":"2022-02-08T10:21:18","date_gmt":"2022-02-08T08:21:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogsdev.sun.ac.za\/eucxylo\/?p=1078"},"modified":"2022-02-08T10:21:18","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T08:21:18","slug":"eucxylo-welcomes-two-new-students-in-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/eucxylo\/2022\/02\/08\/eucxylo-welcomes-two-new-students-in-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"[:en]EucXylo welcomes two new students in 2022[:]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[:en]<em><strong>Post authored by\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogsdev.sun.ac.za\/eucxylo\/the-team\/#letitia-schoeman\"><strong><em>Dr Letitia Schoeman<\/em><\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogsdev.sun.ac.za\/eucxylo\/the-team\/#liesel-strauss\"><strong><em>Mrs Liesel Strauss<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We are thrilled to announce that two new M.Sc. students will be joining <strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900\">EucXylo<\/span><\/strong>!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900\">EucXylo<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>is going from strength to strength in 2022, with the addition of two new M.Sc. students: <a href=\"https:\/\/blogsdev.sun.ac.za\/eucxylo\/the-team\/#lucy-nevhungwili\">Lucy Nevhungwili<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogsdev.sun.ac.za\/eucxylo\/the-team\/#matthew-van-eyssen\">Matthew van Eyssen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lucy obtained her undergraduate degree in B.Sc. Agriculture (Forestry specialization) from\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.univen.ac.za\/\">University of Venda<\/a>\u00a0and a Postgraduate diploma in Forestry and Wood Science from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun.ac.za\/Home.aspx\">University of Stellenbosch<\/a>. She has an interest in the processes behind plant development and improving plant species.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1079 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogsdev.sun.ac.za\/eucxylo\/files\/2022\/02\/Picture1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"401\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Matthew obtained his B.Sc. in Forest and Wood Science at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun.ac.za\/Home.aspx\">Stellenbosch University<\/a>, where his focus was on Wood Product Science. Matthew is excited to join the <span style=\"color: #ff9900\">EucXylo<\/span> team to expand his knowledge in Forestry, specifically focusing on <em>Eucalyptus<\/em>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogsdev.sun.ac.za\/eucxylo\/the-team\/#dave-drew\">Prof. Dave Drew<\/a>\u00a0will act as his main supervisor, but the\u00a0project will also involve a collaboration with Wood Product Science and there\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/C-Wessels-2\">Prof. Brand Wessels<\/a>\u00a0will be his\u00a0co-supervisor. Matthew\u2019s project will involve an\u00a0in-depth analysis on wood structure, as well as silvicultural regimes to see if there are any strong indictors that could assist with cell wall collapse. In his free time, Matthew enjoys fixing things or inventing objects to ease or improve life.
