On 8 July 2026, Iimbovane presented a one-day programme highlighting careers in entomology and the vital role the field plays in biodiversity conservation. The day was presented to a group of girls from the Cape Leopard Trust’s Girls in Conservation initiative.

The day brought together Grade 9 learners and their educators from schools across the Western Cape for hands-on learning and exploration of the fascinating world of insects and conservation. Schools represented included: Cederberg Academy, Clanwilliam Secondary, Steynville Secondary, Du Rust Futura Academy, Bissetsdrift Academy, Groenberg Secondary, and Villiersdorp Secondary.

The day introduced learners to the role of ants and the work of entomologists. Learners discovered a variety of ant sampling techniques before putting their new knowledge into practice during an outdoor field activity. In the afternoon, the learners used microscopes and scientific identification keys to identify different ant species, gaining first-hand experience of the methods used by entomologists.

The day concluded with a session on environmental education and career opportunities in insect conservation, giving learners the chance to ask questions about tertiary studies.
