In August 2026, Iimbovane joined Nature Connect and the Made Better Together Foundation in a collaborative stewardship initiative aimed at strengthening environmental and outdoor education at the Sustainability Institute’s Lynedoch Community School. The partnership aimed to deepen learners’ understanding of biodiversity and sustainability through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.

As part of this initiative, the Iimbovane team introduced learners to the fascinating world of insect ecology through an interactive outdoor lesson—the first of a planned series of outdoor classroom activities.

The team hosted a fun and engaging ant workshop for 25 learners from Grades 1 to 5. The afternoon began with an exciting ant-searching activity, with learners exploring the school grounds and community garden to see how many different ants they could find.

After their outdoor exploration, the learners had the opportunity to take a closer look at their discoveries using portable microscopes. This allowed them to observe the intricate features of ants and discover details that are difficult to see with the naked eye.

To round off the afternoon, each learner created a drawing inspired by what they had observed under the microscope. The activity combined creativity with scientific observation, helping learners connect their outdoor discoveries with their newly developed knowledge of ants.

The workshop provided an exciting introduction to insect ecology while encouraging curiosity, observation and appreciation for the biodiversity found right on the school’s doorstep.
