{"id":1223,"date":"2021-10-15T14:22:59","date_gmt":"2021-10-15T14:22:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/iimbovane\/?p=1223"},"modified":"2022-01-24T13:40:30","modified_gmt":"2022-01-24T13:40:30","slug":"karoo-miere-onder-die-mikroskoop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/iimbovane\/karoo-miere-onder-die-mikroskoop\/","title":{"rendered":"Karoo-miere onder die mikroskoop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Groot opwinding het geheers toe graad 10-leerders van Ho\u00ebrskool Sentraal, in Beaufort-Wes, gevra is om die Iimbovane projekspan te help met \u2018n opname van plaaslike mierspesies.<\/p>\n<p>Hierdie opname het op 25 Augustus 2021 afgeskop met \u2018n veldwerksessie waartydens leerders verskeie metodes gebruik om miere op hulle skoolgrond te versamel.<\/p>\n<p>Die veldwerk het leerders gehelp om waardevolle praktiese vaardighede aan te leer, byvoorbeeld, hoe om waarnemings te maak, navorsingsareas af te meet en wetenskaplike toerusting te gebruik.<\/p>\n<p>Op 30 Augustus 2021 het die projekspan na die skool teruggekeer, gewapen met mikroskope en Petri-bakkies.<\/p>\n<p>Leerders sou nou die kans kry om die versamelde mierspesies met behulp van mikroskope en \u2018n wetenskaplike sleutel te identifiseer<\/p>\n<p>Die sessie was baie gewild en leerders het dit geniet om die miere van nader te bekyk. Tot groot verbasing het hulle gevind dat daar meer as een mierspesie op hulle skoolgrond rondloop en dat mierspesies in voorkoms verskil.<\/p>\n<p>Die projekspan is bygestaan deur MSc student, Abusisiwe Ndaba. Sy is tans besig om die mier genus <em>Anoplolepis<\/em> te hersien en kon vir die leerders meer oor die studieveld van taksonomie vertel. Abusisiwe se navorsing word deur die &#8216;Foundational Biodiversity Information Programme (FBIP)&#8217; befonds.<\/p>\n<p>Die leerders het veral individue van die mierspesie <em>Anoplolepis custodiens<\/em> tydens hul veldwerk versamel.
