{"id":283,"date":"2016-08-18T07:46:21","date_gmt":"2016-08-18T07:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wordpressmulti\/iimbovane\/iimbovane-team-sparks-interest-in-biodiversity-science-at-careers-expo\/"},"modified":"2020-11-24T06:45:16","modified_gmt":"2020-11-24T06:45:16","slug":"iimbovane-team-sparks-interest-in-biodiversity-science-at-careers-expo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/iimbovane\/iimbovane-team-sparks-interest-in-biodiversity-science-at-careers-expo\/","title":{"rendered":"Iimbovane team sparks interest in biodiversity science at careers expo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Iimbovane Outreach Project was amongst a flock of exhibitors that were hosted at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sanbi.org\/gardens\/harold-porter\">SANBI Harold Porter Botanical Garden<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/wced.school.za\/home\/home.html\">Western Cape Education Department (WCED)<\/a> on the 11<sup>th<\/sup> August 2016 for the annual Biodiversity Careers Expo 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Learners attending the expo were introduced to a range of careers including entomology, taxonomy, horticulture, marine biology, aquaculture, nature conservation, astronomy and archeology. More Life Science educators could benefit from the methods that are used by Iimbovane to gather and process scientific data.\u201dHe also made a special request for Iimbovane to run more teacher workshops in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The Iimbovane exhibit was also visited by familiar faces from schools that participate in Iimbovane such as Umyezo Wama Apile Combined School in Grabouw, Swartberg Secondary School in Caledon and Swellendam Secondary School in Swellendam.<\/p>\n<p>Mlungele Nsikani, MSc student at the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/cib\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DST-NRF Centre for Invasion Biology<\/a> and who assisted at the exhibition, encouraged learners to pursue science careers by saying \u201cScience is exciting and you always get to work
