Gretchen Jansen is a doctoral candidate and lecturer in the Department of Mercantile Law at Stellenbosch University. She is also a member of the Anton Mostert Chair of Intellectual Property. Ms Jansen completed her LLB and LLM(Intellectual Property Law)(cum laude) degrees at Stellenbosch University in 2017 and 2018 respectively. She lectures on intellectual property law in the digital environment, business organisations law, and the law and technology. Her research interests include intellectual property law in the digital environment, art law, and performers’ protection. She was a visiting research fellow at the Information, Telecommunications and Media Law Institute of the University of Münster. As part of this visit, she coordinated collaborations between the Münster Art Law Clinic and Stellenbosch Art Law Society. She is also the co-editor of “Art and Law – A Comprehensive Guide on Art Law in South Africa” published in 2023. Her peer-reviewed publications deal with topics such as copyright in the music industry and the development of intellectual property law in the digital environment.
