What is MFA?\u202f\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Multi-Factor Authentication adds a second layer of security to your account to ensure that your account stays safe, even if someone else knows your password. This will mean that, for certain services, including Microsoft Outlook, Teams, etc. you will be prompted to provide more information in order to authenticate your identity as a Stellenbosch University student or staff member. <\/span>More about MFA here.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why is it so important\u00a0that I\u00a0enrol\u00a0for MFA?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

By enrolling for MFA<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0you ensure that your account is\u00a0<\/span>more\u00a0<\/span>secure.<\/span>\u00a0 You are protecting your own data (including your HR, payment details, etc.), your colleagues and the university.<\/span><\/p>\n

How do I\u00a0enrol\u00a0for\u00a0MFA?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

By following the steps set out in the\u00a0<\/span>.pdf document.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What must I do if the document does not open?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

If the document does not open, it could be due to a slow internet connection or you do not have a PDF reader (e.g. Adobe Acrobat) installed. Please also clear your browser history or try to open the link in a different browser.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What can I do if I have problems to enrol for MFA?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you are struggling to\u00a0<\/span>enrol<\/span>\u00a0for<\/span>\u00a0MFA, please\u00a0<\/span>log a<\/span>\u00a0request on\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>ICT Partner Portal<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and a technician will contact you.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When do I have to\u00a0enrol\u00a0for MFA?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Please\u00a0<\/span>enrol<\/span> for MFA as soon as possible. It is critical that all our staff and students use two-factor authentication.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How will I know that I have successfully enrolled for MFA?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

A confirmation message will be displayed on the last screen of the\u00a0<\/span>enrolment<\/span>\u00a0process.<\/span>\u00a0
\nYou are now enrolled for Multi Factor Authentication.<\/span><\/p>\n

What must I do if I don’t see the\u00a0 screens as indicated on the enrolment document?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Raise a request on the ICT Partner Portal at<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>https:\/\/servicedesk.sun.ac.za<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Will I be charged for the MFA authentication SMS’s?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

No, the SMS’s are at the cost of the University.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Can I enrol for MFA if I stay in an area without cell phone signal?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

No, you need a cellphone with reception to enrol for MFA.<\/span><\/p>\n

Which IT services will be activated for MFA?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the first phase all Microsoft365 (Outlook, Sharepoint Online, OneDrive for Business, etc.) applications will require MFA authentication.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What will happen if a service is activated for MFA?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before you can access the\u00a0<\/span>service<\/span>\u00a0y<\/span>ou will be requested to enter the one-time pin number<\/span>\u00a0that will be sent to the cell phone number that you have indicated during the enrolment process.<\/span> Or if you chose to use the Authenticator App a message will be sent to your phone via the app which request that you approve and in some cases it might also ask for a scan of your thumbprint.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
