Wat ons doen<\/h2>\n

Die Suid-Afrikaanse regsstelsel kan slegs doeltreffend wees as dit toeganklik is tot en geloofwaardig is in die o\u00eb van die gewone mens.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Die Regskliniek, gele\u00eb te Crozierstraat 18-24, Stellenbosch, funksioneer as \u2018n volwaardige prokureurskantoor, wat gratis regsdienste bied aan behoeftiges, terwyl daar terselfdertyd opleiding verskaf word aan finalejaarstudente en kandidaatprokureurs.<\/p>\n

Die prokureurs en kandidaat-prokureurs verskyn in landdroshowe in \u2018n wye area in die Boland.\u00a0 Die Kliniek koester ook \u2018n kultuur van burgerlike verantwoordelik deur die aanbieding van werkswinkels oor uitsetting, skuldverligting en gesinsgeweld. Verder voorsien die Regspkliniek ondersteuningsdienste aan die Ceres\u00a0en Worcester advieskantore.\u00a0Behoeftiges word van \u2018n verskeidenheid regsdienste voorsien soos egskeidings, kontraktuele aangeleenthede, familieregskwessies en skuldverligting.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018n Hoofspesialisasiegebied van die Regskliniek is plaasuitsettings, tans een van die belangrikste regskwessies in die Boland-platteland. Verblyfsreg van werkers op plase hang hoofsaaklik af van dienskontrakte. Swak werksverhoudings lei dikwels tot ontslag, gevolg deur aansoeke om uitsetting. Uitsettings en gevolglike dakloosheid bedreig die menseregte van plaaswerkers en hul kinders\u00a0\u2013 hul word swerwelinge met min hoop om weer wonings te vind en hul familielewe te hervat.<\/p>\n

Die volhoubaarheid van die bogenoemde dienste is afhanklik van befondsers vir wie die bevordering van menseregte deur toegang tot geregtigheid belangrik is.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

What we do<\/h2>\n

The South African legal system can only be effective if it is accessible and credible in the eyes of the ordinary citizen. The Law Clinic is ideally situated to extend access to justice to the poorest of the poor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Law Clinic, situated at 18-24 Crozier street, Stellenbosch, operates as a fully-fledged attorneys\u2019 office, delivering free legal services to the indigent, whilst at the same time training final year law students and candidate-attorneys in the practical application of the law.<\/p>\n

The attorneys and candidate attorneys appear in magistrate\u2019s courts in a wide area in the Boland. The Clinic also nurtures a culture of civil responsibility holding workshops on evictions, debt relief and family violence. The Clinic also provides back-up legal services to the Ceres and Worcester advice offices.\u00a0Indigent people are assisted by staff of the law clinic with a wide variety of civil matters like divorce matters, drafting of contracts, family law and debt relief, to name but a few.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Law Clinic has a specialized focus on farm evictions,\u00a0 currently one of the most important legal issues in the Boland region. Right of residence of farm workers on the farms is solely dependent on employment contracts. Bad labour relations often result in dismissals, followed by eviction applications.\u00a0 Evictions and consequent homelessness are a real threat to the human rights of farm labourers and their children\u00a0they become outcasts with little hope of finding homes and protecting their family life.<\/p>\n

The sustainability of the above mentioned services is highly dependent on the generosity of funders for whom the promoting of human rights values through access to justice are important.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
