Prof Marius de Waal is a Professor of Private Law.\u00a0 His main fields of interest are the law of succession and the law of trusts and he teaches these subjects in the Department of Private Law.\u00a0 He is the co-author of standard South African textbooks on these subjects.\u00a0 Prof De Waal has also taught other subjects in the area of private law such as agency, the law of property and the law of delict.\u00a0 He has been awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Scholarship on three occasions (1994, 2000 and 2008) for research at German academic institutions.\u00a0 Since 2010 Prof De Waal has been a visiting professor at the University of Paris Descartes (Paris V) \u00a0in Paris, France and in 2016 he was the occupier of the TPR<\/em> exchange chair at the University of Leuven, Belgium. In 2017 he was the recipient of Stellenbosch University\u2019s Chancellor\u2019s award for research.<\/td>\n| <\/td>\n | Prof Marius de Waal is ‘n Professor in Privaatreg.\u00a0 Sy hoof belangstellingsgebiede is die erfreg en die trustreg en hy doseer hierdie vakgebiede in die Departement Privaatreg.\u00a0 Hy is die mede-outeur van standaard Suid-Afrikaanse handboeke op hierdie gebiede.\u00a0 Prof De Waal het ook reeds ander ander vakgebiede in die veld van privaatreg doseer, soos deliktereg, sakereg en verteenwoordigingsreg.\u00a0 Hy was reeds by drie geleenthede (1994, 2000 en 2008) die ontvanger van die Alexander von Humboldt Stipendium vir navorsing by Duitse akademiese instellings. Sedert 2010 is Prof De Waal \u2018n besoekende professor\u00a0aan die Universiteit van Parys \u00a0Descartes (Parys V) in Parys, Frankryk en in 2016 was hy die bekle\u00ebr van die TPR<\/em>-wisselleerstoel aan die Universiteit van Leuven in Belgi\u00eb.
