The theme this year is \u201cOpen for Whom? Equity in Open Knowledge\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In celebration of Open Access week the Academy Science of South Africa in partnership with the Library and Information Service will be hosting a dialogue on Open Access publishing lead by Prof Jonathan Jansen. More information on the event is available <a href=\"http:\/\/library.sun.ac.za\/en-za\/announcements\/Lists\/Posts\/Post.aspx?ID=158\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During Open Access week the Library also uses the opportunity to draw attention to our own Open Access initiatives, which are the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/scholar.sun.ac.za\/\"><em>SUNScholar<\/em><\/a><em> institutional repository<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Launched in 2008<\/li>\n<li>Provides access to over 55 800 research outputs of SU (including theses, dissertations and articles)<\/li>\n<li>Approximately 600 000 visits and 250 000 downloads per annum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/library.sun.ac.za\/en-za\/Search\/Pages\/sunjournals.aspx\"><em>SUNJournals<\/em><\/a><em> open access journal hosting platform<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Launched in 2011<\/li>\n<li>Currently hosts 25 journals affiliated with SU<\/li>\n<li>Over the last three years these journals collectively hosted more than 300 research outputs contributed by Stellenbosch University researchers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/digital.lib.sun.ac.za\/\"><em>SUNDigital Collections<\/em><\/a><em> digital heritage repository<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Launched in 2013<\/li>\n<li>Showcases library Special Collections<\/li>\n<li>12 917 items in 30 collections<\/li>\n<li>Approximately 14 000 visits and 10 000 downloads per annum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/scholardata.sun.ac.za\/\"><em>SUNScholarData<\/em><\/a><em> research data repository<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Launched in 2019<\/li>\n<li>A repository for SU researchers to share and disseminate their research data in accordance with good research data management practices<\/li>\n<li>Facilitates the findability, accessibility and reusability of the university&#8217;s research data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Article by : Mimi Seyffert-Wirth<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>International Open Access week is celebrated every year globally during the last week of October.
