{"id":3174,"date":"2024-08-28T06:50:58","date_gmt":"2024-08-28T06:50:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/libraryresearchnews\/?p=3174"},"modified":"2024-09-27T13:52:45","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T13:52:45","slug":"a-new-face-and-place-for-theses-dissertations-submissions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/libraryresearchnews\/2024\/08\/28\/a-new-face-and-place-for-theses-dissertations-submissions\/","title":{"rendered":"A new face and place for theses\/dissertations submissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/libraryresearchnews\/files\/2024\/08\/Scholar.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3208\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/libraryresearchnews\/files\/2024\/08\/Scholar-580x387.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/libraryresearchnews\/files\/2024\/08\/Scholar-580x387.png 580w, https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/libraryresearchnews\/files\/2024\/08\/Scholar-940x628.png 940w, https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/libraryresearchnews\/files\/2024\/08\/Scholar-768x513.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/libraryresearchnews\/files\/2024\/08\/Scholar-676x452.png 676w, https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/libraryresearchnews\/files\/2024\/08\/Scholar.png 976w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u201c<em>SUNScholar is open to receive new nominations for the December 2024 graduation period<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was the opening line for every graduation period.\u00a0 This year is no different, except now it has a new name, face and place.\u00a0 The submission of theses and dissertations for graduation has moved to <strong>SUNStudent Academia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The nomination for students to submit a thesis or dissertation for graduation now takes place on <strong>Thesis Management<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thesis Management<\/strong> sits under the tab for<strong> Examinations,<\/strong> yet it has nothing to do with examinations.\u00a0 For each functionality, <strong>Examinations <\/strong>and <strong>Thesis Management<\/strong>, it is two totally different, and separate processes and therefore two different outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>During the process of <strong>Examinations<\/strong>, the thesis or dissertation has yet to be examined and reviewed.\u00a0 In <strong>Thesis Management<\/strong> only the final revised thesis or dissertation needs to be uploaded.\u00a0 This is the copy following examination, and after all corrections have been made.\u00a0 This is also the copy that will be available on <strong>SUNScholar.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The User Guide for <strong>Thesis Management<\/strong> is available <a href=\"https:\/\/student.sun.ac.za\/#\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For the most part, the workflow for <strong>Thesis management<\/strong> hasn\u2019t changed.<\/p>\n<p>To summarise the process:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The final revised document must be submitted in PDF format.<\/li>\n<li>Log onto SUNStudent Academia.<\/li>\n<li>Click on <strong>Examinations<\/strong>, then click <strong>Thesis Management<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The supervisor\/promoter or administrative staff nominates the candidate.<\/li>\n<li>The thesis\/dissertation is uploaded by the supervisor\/promoter or administrative staff.<\/li>\n<li>The supervisor\/promoter or administrative staff approves the submission.<\/li>\n<li>The thesis\/dissertation will be publicly accessible on <strong>SUNScholar<\/strong> following graduation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Due to the sensitive nature of security and ongoing enhancements to <strong>Thesis Management<\/strong>, the upload\/submission of the final revised thesis or dissertation, must be done by the supervisor\/promoter or administrative staff.<\/p>\n<p>The final date for the submission of theses or dissertations for the <strong>December 2024<\/strong> graduation is <strong>28 November 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Changes in the process<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Thesis Management function will remain open throughout the year.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>compulsory<\/strong> for all master\u2019s and doctoral students to complete this process for graduation.<\/li>\n<li>Students will not be uploading any documents; this will be the responsibility of the nominator.<\/li>\n<li>The process of nomination, submission and approval\/rejection will take place on the same screen\/programme.<\/li>\n<li>The manual input of the student number will give a dropdown box of ALL postgraduate students within the faculty, ensure you \u2018pick\u2019 the correct student from the dropdown box.<\/li>\n<li>The manual input of the supervisor\/promotor staff number will give a dropdown box of ALL supervisors\/promotors within the faculty, ensure you \u2018pick\u2019 the correct supervisor\/promotor from the dropdown box.<\/li>\n<li>Incorrect uploading of document(s) cannot be replaced after the submission process, so the process of nomination needs to be cancelled.<\/li>\n<li>Only a cumulative maximum of 250 MB can be uploaded per student. Exceeding this threshold requires the user to send the document(s) to <a href=\"mailto:scholar@sun.ac.za\">scholar@sun.ac.za.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Uploaded documents will remain visible to the staff member who did the nomination.<\/li>\n<li>The discretion and security of uploaded documents remain with the department.<\/li>\n<li>Thesis management will be \u2018wiped\u2019 clean after each graduation period.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>embargo<\/strong> period only goes up to three years.
