The following steps might be a good way to improve your online visibility as a researcher and assist you with communicating about your research:<\/p>\n

  1. \u00a0Create and maintain online profiles (e.g. Google Scholar<\/a>, ResearchGate<\/a>, Academia<\/a>).<\/li>\n
  2. \u00a0Use persistent identifiers (e.g. ORCID<\/a>, Researcher ID in Publons<\/a>, DOIs<\/a>) to disambiguate yourself as an author or to link to your work.<\/li>\n
  3. \u00a0Publish in Open Access journals or choose Open Access options<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  4. \u00a0Use Creative Commons licenses<\/a> for your work for re-use.<\/li>\n
  5. \u00a0Self-archive pre- or post-prints to institutional repositories (SUNScholar<\/a>).<\/li>\n
  6. \u00a0Publish your data to data repositories (SUNScholarData<\/a>).<\/li>\n
  7. \u00a0Make social media engagement about your research a regular habit (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter)<\/li>\n
  8. \u00a0Engage your audience in meaningful conversations about the topics that you are interested in.<\/li>\n
  9. \u00a0Connect with other researchers by means of academic network tools (ResearchGate, Mendeley, etc)<\/li>\n
  10. \u00a0Appeal to various audiences via multiple publication types (academic articles, news items, blog posts, magazine articles)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It will be important to check in on your goals often, at least once in six months, or when you have published a new article.<\/p>\n
