The world is still in the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic. As far as possible, our staff and students have grown accustomed to the new and unique world we live in with social distancing, mask wearing, distance learning, “lockdown”, virtual meetings and conferences.\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

The Department of Pathology (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) of Stellenbosch University will be hosting its Pathology Research Day on a virtual platform this year, on the afternoons of Thursday 21 October and Friday 22 October 2021.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The Department of Pathology at the National Health Laboratory Services Tygerberg and Stellenbosch University offers a comprehensive diagnostic pathology service to patients at Tygerberg Hospital and at the hospitals and clinics in its drainage area, while the Division of Forensic Medicine focuses on the provision of forensic pathology services. Almost the entire academic platform including training, teaching and research is based upon the service platform.<\/span><\/h5>\n
All presentations submitted by staff, postdoctoral fellows and students will be presented as\u00a0powerpoint <\/i>presentations with live Q&A sessions via the Microsfot Teams Application. The following divisions will be represented:<\/h5>\n

    Dr Tongai Maponga is a researcher and lecturer in the Division of Medical Virology at Stellenbosch University. His most recent work includes investigating SARS CoV-2 (COVID-19) in the South African population.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Dr Lulu Nair is a Senior lecturer in the Centre of Medical Ethics and Law at Stellenbosch University.<\/span><\/p>\n

    She is a clin<\/span>ician with experience in public health, clinical trial research in HIV and TB, GCP training and bioethics. Since graduating from the ARESA program she has served on the UKZN REC and the REC of the South African MRC.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    She will be discussing the POPI Act and the implications on the medical field.<\/span><\/p>\n
