{"id":14,"date":"2016-05-27T17:55:21","date_gmt":"2016-05-27T17:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/prasarobmech2016\/?page_id=14"},"modified":"2016-12-09T06:14:32","modified_gmt":"2016-12-09T06:14:32","slug":"2016-prasa-robmech","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sun.ac.za\/prasarobmech2016\/","title":{"rendered":"[:en]2016 PRASA-RobMech[:]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[:en]Welcome to the <strong>2016\u00a0PRASA-RobMech International Conference<\/strong>\u00a0incorporating\u00a0<strong>The 27th Annual Symposium of the Pattern Recognition Association of South Africa<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>The 9th Robotics and Mechatronics Conference of South Africa.<\/strong> \u00a0It will take place from 30 November to 2 December 2016 at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. \u00a0The two-day main conference will be preceded by a day of workshops and tutorials. This is a great opportunity to meet other like-minded scientists in the interdisciplinary fields of pattern recognition, robotics and mechatronics.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Keynote speakers<\/strong><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Prof. <a href=\"http:\/\/homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk\/svijayak\/\"><strong>Sethu Vijayakumar<\/strong><\/a>, who is the Professor of Robotics in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh and the Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics.<\/li>\n<li>Dr.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.people.fas.harvard.edu\/~asaxe\/\"><strong>Andrew Saxe<\/strong><\/a> is a Swartz Postdoctoral Fellow in Theoretical Neuroscience at the Center for Brain Science, Harvard University. He completed his PhD in Electrical Engineering at Stanford advised by Jay McClelland, Surya Ganguli, Andrew Ng, and Christoph Schreiner. His dissertation on deep linear neural networks was awarded the Robert J. Glushko Dissertation Prize from the Cognitive Science Society.
